KIMBERLY COX began her career in the fire service in 2000, when she was hired as the administrative assistant for the Eden Prairie (MN) Fire Department, an all-volunteer department. Within a few years, the department hired its first full-time chief, and the department transitioned to a combination department. In 2002, she became the first full-time firefighter for the department. She is a Firefighter II, EMT, and hazmat technician, and has Blue Card and FAO certification. She has an associate degree in fire science and is in her senior year of study for a bachelor's degree in fire and emergency services. She is a founder and president of the North Star Women’s Firefighter Association and the executive director of the Board for the International Association of Women in Fire & Emergency Services.
