Anthony Avillo

Deputy Chief
North Hudson (NJ) Regional Fire & Rescue
A retired as deputy chief of North Hudson (NJ) Regional Fire & Rescue after 34 years in the fire service. He is the director of the Monmouth County (NJ) Fire Academy. He is the author of Fireground Strategies (2015) and coauthor of Full Contact Leadership (2017). He is a member of the Fire Engineering Editorial Advisory Board and was the recipient of the 2012 IFSFI George D. Post Instructor of the Year Award. He has a B.S. degree in fire science and an M.S. degree in national security studies.

In this course, Deputy Chief Anthony Avillo introduces you to the traits of Full Contact Leadership and how it applies to the fire officer and those who aspire to become fire officers. Understanding and addressing the often uncomfortable personnel conflicts and subordinate/ superior relationships and their application to the fireground are a major focus. The steps to resolving personnel conflict are compared and applied to the familiar fireground evolutions with which most fire operators are comfortable--as a way to introduce a level of comfort into the uncomfortable areas of command and leadership.
